THANKSGIVING

I cannot help but to be drawn to Philippians 4:4-7 when I hear the word 'Thanksgiving.' It says "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again:
Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ."
We all have alot to be thankful for. Another day, a great family, our health, the breath of life, food on our tables, etc... Paul gives us these word's of encouragement in order to stay encouraged. In order that we will continue to focus on how good God is, and has been in our lives. I don't know about you, but I need to guard my heart everyday.
Last night I took a young man to the nursing home in order to let him see that he has alot to be thankful for. It seems that over the past several years he always gets on his pity pot because things don't work out the way he thinks they should. As we walked the corridor's and talked with those who have little hope, he began to get the picture. He realized that he has his health, he has his freedom, he has a home that does not smell vile, and that he has taken alot for granted. I too am reminded about why everyday should be a day of Thanksgiving.
Today we have people doing the 'Thirty Days of thanksgiving', and it leads me to wonder "Why not three hundred and sixty five days of thanksgiving?" "Why not give thanks without ceasing?" How about committing to thank the Lord everyday until He comes back, or He takes us home? Now let's give Him thanks~
